Where do you start from?

Short story

The ice-ring in the city park „Városliget” had been used for skating by children and adults as well. The ice- ring always had an important role in the life of sport-lovers, because the whole city has enjoyed the beauties of winter since the beginning of the 1900. As the second ice-ring Europe with a machine -made cooling system, skaters could use the ring in the mild winters as well after the first World War.
More information

Concerning the competitive sports, the “Városliget”, and the Ice ring was the location of important occasions. Since the founding of the International Skating Union (ISU) in 1892, on the 8th of February 1893 there had been organised a normalised speed skating championship. and two years after the first competition, there was held the first European Championship.

The 2nd world war has left its marks on the ice-ring. After the reconstruction, the first modernization wave came in the ’60, which generated a huge change, because the 300m skating track became a 400m standard track. After a long gap, the ice-ring was the home of the European Speed Skating Championship in January 2012. The high level organisation and the grandiose view credited the whole Continent.

Due to the fact, that the Ice ring has given a place for memorable sport occasions, it will have a new challenge at the 2017 FINA World Championship. This venue will be the location of the synchronised competitions, which means there will be two temporary pool instead of ice on the track.  This premier could head to a tradition, because the conditions are great! There is the scenic view of the park, the monumental sculptures of the Heroes square, the Vajdahunyad castle nearby the track, and the historic building of the “Műcsarnok”. If we match the view and the enthusiasm of the Hungarian sports-fan, it will me a memorable event, for sure!
